Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and we live in arguably one of the most beautiful regions of South Africa surrounded by unspoiled natural wonders. The Garden Route is perfect for romantic getaways and there are so many activities for couples to enjoy. Why not consider going back to basics and just do some simple things alone together that are completely (or nearly completely), free during the month of February.
We are surrounded by oceans, pristine natural forests and nature reserves and in light of International focus on protecting our natural surroundings, why not switch off your phones, leave your ipads at home and embark on some of these adventures around Knysna and Plett.
Picnic for 2 at Jubilee Creek Waterfall
Make a picnic and venture out to Jubilee Creek Waterfall. There are various picnic spots next to the stream, so you’ll be able to find a private spot along the riverbank where you and your loved one will be able to enjoy each other’s company and the lush natural surroundings.
Experience the breathtaking views from Spitzkop
Spitzkop is the highest viewpoint above Knysna. Spitzkop (also spelled Spitskop) lies on the Prince Alfred Pass, Route 339, that connects Knysna with Avontuur and Uniondale. You can drive to Diepwalle forest and hike to the viewpoint from there.
Oyster Farm Tour
Oysters have long had the reputation of being an aphrodisiac. They say that Casanova, the French adventurer/womanizer, used to eat fifty oysters a day! The Oyster Farm Tour in Knysna gives you an insider view of the world’s most loved delicacies. Get to taste the difference between wild and cultivated oysters, all while cruising the lagoon to the Knysna Heads and surrounds.
Couples Spa Treatment
Le Spa Tranquille, situated on Thesen Island in Knysna offers a Couples Spa Treatment that will make both of you feel like you are in 7th heaven! This 3 hour treatment includes a full body massage, mini facial, foot treatment and relaxing spa bath with complimentary sparkling wine.
Romantic walk on the beach
The Garden Route has some of the best beaches in South Africa and this is another reason why so many people decide to visit this part of the world year in and year out. Go explore the castles on Noetzie beach or head on out to Brenton-on-Sea – this beach has some rocky patches, creating little pools where you and your bae can cool off in after a stroll on the beach.
Top off the experience by staying in one of our bespoke selection of beautiful holiday houses in amazing locations to ensure that get away from home chores and routines in order to really get to know one another again and spend quality time together. Our houses are large so come together with other couples as they have plenty of space, many ensuite bathrooms, numerous lounges & TV nooks and some have 3 or 4 private patios, balconies and outdoor areas for couples to hide away in.
Alternatively for complete privacy we have quite a few returning guests that book the entire place to themselves. After a day out in nature, you will deserve a huge bath to soak in, the sound of the crashing waves at our beach homes, the expansive decks and boma’s to enjoy a romantic sundowner together in the evenings and the luxury of being so close to the sea.
